  • Mild terrain
  • Open views from Dutch Shoe Rock
  • Visit a serene lake

Your Day

Explore the region as you never imagined it. Today's hike will take us to High Point State Park, a massive and wild area in northern New Jersey. Our hike will begin along the historic Appalachian Trail, where we'll follow the footsteps of countless section and thru-hikers. Along the way, we'll walk through patches of wild blueberries and shady hemlock groves. Views of Kittatinny Ridge await us as we emerge over the top of Dutch Shoe Rock, a unique geological formation created millions of years ago. Our hike will finish alongside the serene Lake Rutherford, where we may observe some turtles sunning themselves on the rocks before our relaxing drive back to the city.

Perfect For: First time hikers, experienced hikers looking for a relaxing day

Weather conditions can be quite different from the city in the mountainous regions we visit. Temperatures can be quite cooler as we head north or to higher elevations. Keep your eyes out for an email from our team a few days in advance of your trip. That email will provide updated weather conditions and will alert you to anything additional you should put in your pack to prepare. We head outside in any weather, as long as we know it's safe, and we don't let a little rain or wind ruin a chance for an adventure. You can contact us at [email protected] if you have any questions about preparing for trail conditions.
