  • Great for beginners up for a challenge
  • Stunning rock formations
  • Enjoy a post-hike stop at a farm stand

Your Day

Arguably the most picturesque vista in the Shawangunks, Gertrude's Nose is a geologic snapshot of the destructive natural forces that are slowly ripping apart the Shawangunk conglomerate and leaving behind some of its most intriguing features. Our trail traverses six miles of stunning views and fascinating geological formations and is a combination of wide carriage roads and rocky footpath. Gertrude's Nose itself looks like the prow of a great ship, with massive blocks of fallen rock below. From the peak, you have breathtaking views of The Catskill Mountains to the north and the Hudson Valley to the east. Completing our loop, we will hike through dense hemlock forest and over streams as we marvel at the crags and crevasses of the Shawangunk Ridge.

Perfect for: New hikers who are up for a challenge, experienced hikers looking for a moderate day

Weather conditions can be quite different from the city in the mountainous regions we visit. Temperatures can be quite cooler as we head north or to higher elevations. Keep your eyes out for an email from our team a few days in advance of your trip. That email will provide updated weather conditions and will alert you to anything additional you should put in your pack to prepare. We head outside in any weather, as long as we know it's safe, and we don't let a little rain or wind ruin a chance for an adventure. You can contact us at [email protected] if you have any questions about preparing for trail conditions.
