About the trip

A winter summit of a Catskills peak

What We Love

  • Open views of the Catskill range
  • Hike a Catskills 3500 peak
  • Unique geology from a meteor strike
  • Interesting history and stories of the area

Your Day

Giant Ledge and Panther Mountain, among the most dramatic of the 3500 Series, serve us a winding trail on the way to the 3,725-foot summit. We will hike through notches and ridges created by glaciers, and these sedimentary rocks still bear glacial scarring in areas. The trails often climb for three miles or more, gaining 1,556 vertical feet before leveling out at a ridge or the peak. Earn the rest of your weekend by doing something this epic in a day.

Depending on trail conditions, snowshoes or microspikes may be required. If so, they will be provided by your guide.

Perfect for: Intermediate hikers looking for a challenge, experienced hikers

Activity

We’ll be active for five to eight hours. Prepare for this trip by maintaining your daily fitness regime that includes both cardio and strength.

Distances

Be ready to cover some serious distance. We may hike up to eleven miles today, nearly a half-marathon.

Surfaces

We’ll be hiking on varying mountainous terrain, which will involve navigating various rock faces, loose stones, and steep, uneven trails.

Elevation Change

Up to 2,000 feet per day.

Altitude

Up to 10,000 feet.

Weather

Weather conditions can be quite different from the city in the mountainous regions we visit. Temperatures can be expected to be quite cooler as we head north or to higher elevations and we'll likely encounter more snow accumulation between early winter and spring. Keep your eyes out for an email from our team a few days in advance of your trip. That email will provide updated weather conditions and will alert you to anything additional you should put in your pack to prepare. Your guide will also make sure you have the necessary gear, such as snowshoes or microspikes, so you can have a great day in the snow. We head outside in any weather, as long as we know it's safe, and we don't let a little snow or wind ruin a chance for an adventure. You can contact us at [email protected] if you have any questions about preparing for trail conditions.
