About the trip

Climb the legendary and rugged peak

At 6,288 feet, Mount Washington is the tallest mountain in the Northeastern United States and the most prominent mountain east of the Mississippi River. The peak is known for its erratic and extreme weather - holding the record for the highest wind speed ever observed by a human (231 mph). While thousands of visitors attempt to summit Mount Washington yearly, its extreme conditions, demanding trails, and unpredictable nature make it a great challenge for hikers and a true accomplishment for those who can make it. Our long weekend will include a hike to the peak via the Tuckerman Ravine trail - the most scenic and direct route to the top.

Weather

By the numbers, 40s and 50s is the norm, but you should expect conditions to be anywhere within 20 degrees of that range. Mount Washington sits at the epicenter of multiple weather patterns and the surrounding valleys focus the entire region on this single summit. Weather is unpredictable.

Lodging

You'll be spending both nights at a group campground with access to the van. Your DO guides will help you with tent set up and will be cooking all meals at the campsite. The campground has a general store and potable water. Tents, sleeping bags, and sleeping pads can be rented for an additional fee.

Training

This is a strenuous, rough trail with a great deal of elevation gain. Give yourself adequate time to prepare, particularly if hiking in steep terrain is new to you. Personalized training recommendations are available for registrants.
