About the trip

Mountain lakes and open views

What We Love

  • Beautiful glacial lakes
  • Sweeping views of the Shawangunks
  • Unique flora and fauna
  • Visit a local farm stand

Your Day

The journey to Millbrook Mountain begins at a famous glacial lake, Lake Minnewaska, sculpted out of cliff and fallen rock. The rugged conglomerate and shale rocks form dramatic ridges and peaks. Our hike will be a mix of rocky footpaths and gentle carriage roads. Along the way, we will see sharply tilted masses of rock, crevices and pinnacles that characterize the Shawangunk Mountains. This uplifted bedrock also shows us evidence of the last ice age, with glacial grooves and striations as the ice scoured across the land 10,000 years ago. The ridgeline will afford jaw-dropping views of the Hudson Valley and some of the most famous climbing areas in the Shawangunks. We'll top off the day with a stop at a nearby farmstand for homemade goodies for the drive home.

Perfect for:  Novice hikers who exercise regularly, experienced hikers looking for a moderate day

Weather

Weather conditions can be quite different from the city in the mountainous regions we visit. Temperatures can be quite cooler as we head north or to higher elevations. Keep your eyes out for an email from our team a few days in advance of your trip. That email will provide updated weather conditions and will alert you to anything additional you should put in your pack to prepare. We head outside in any weather, as long as we know it's safe, and we don't let a little rain or wind ruin a chance for an adventure. You can contact us at [email protected] if you have any questions about preparing for trail conditions.
