About the trip

  • Hike on the Devil's Path
  • Stunning views of the Catskills
  • Challenging scrambles
  • Snowy mountaintop pine forests

Prepare for a breathtaking day, both in beauty and challenge. We'll set out on the trail and immediately begin our ascent. Our route will link up with the infamous Devil's Path and a tough scramble up to the 3500' elevation point awaits shortly thereafter. Hiking through the snow adds a new layer to our trip, while the bare trees allow us to take in stunning views on the tough climb up. Plateau lives up to its name though, as it abruptly levels out for the mile long stretch along its summit through the serene mountain top pine forest. We'll emerge from our winter wonderland and finish with a view out over the northern Catskills before retracing our steps back to the trailhead.

Depending on trail conditions, snowshoes or microspikes may be required. If so, they will be provided by your guide.

Perfect for:  Experienced hikers, fit adventurers up for a challenge

Level 7

On Level 7 trips you’ll encounter some of the steepest elevations and technical terrain available within a day’s drive. These trips are for athletic types and those who wish to push their physical abilities.

You can expect to be active for six to eight hours. You can best prepare for a Level 7 trip by maintaining your intense fitness regimen, trying to get your mile time below eight minutes, and hiking consistently on the weekends.

Level 7 hikes can be anywhere from ten to thirteen miles.

We will be on mountainous, exposed terrain and steep, uneven trails. Most hikes will require not only hiking boots but also additional gear like hiking poles and headlamps.

Up to 2,500 feet per day.

Up to 12,000 feet.

Weather conditions can be quite different from the city in the mountainous regions we visit. Temperatures can be expected to be quite cooler as we head north or to higher elevations and we'll likely encounter more snow accumulation between early winter and spring. Keep your eyes out for an email from our team a few days in advance of your trip. That email will provide updated weather conditions and will alert you to anything additional you should put in your pack to prepare. Your guide will also make sure you have the necessary gear, such as snowshoes or microspikes, so you can have a great day in the snow. We head outside in any weather, as long as we know it's safe, and we don't let a little snow or wind ruin a chance for an adventure. You can contact us at [email protected] if you have any questions about preparing for trail conditions.
