WOW Women's Backpacking Overnight

Your Trip

This weekend is the ultimate introduction to backpacking. Over the course of your two-day adventure, you and a group of fellow women will learn the skills you need to pack, cook, and camp in the backcountry, under the instruction of an expert Discover Outdoors guide. This workshop is designed to give women the knowledge they need to succeed at long distance and multi-day hikes all while taking space for important conversations and reflection.

Your DO guide will pick you up on Saturday morning and whisk you away to the trailhead. After reviewing packing techniques, you'll embark on the six mile hike to camp. As you travel along the trail, you'll quickly learn how weight can change a day's travel and will soon understand the benefit of packing light. Once at camp, your guide will review the basics of finding a good site and setting up your tent. Evening will include a lesson in cooking, water filtration, nutrition, and other useful topics. Over dinner, your team will debrief and participate in guided reflection before settling into bed.

Weather conditions can be quite different from the city in the mountainous regions we visit. Temperatures can be quite cooler as we head north or to higher elevations. Keep your eyes out for an email from our team a few days in advance of your trip. That email will provide updated weather conditions and will alert you to anything additional you should put in your pack to prepare. We head outside in any weather, as long as we know it's safe, and we don't let a little rain or wind ruin a chance for an adventure. You can contact us at [email protected] if you have any questions about preparing for trail conditions.

Backcountry Camping

We'll be camping out for one night near a backcountry shelter. We'll be sleeping in backpacking tents. Tents can be rented for $30/ea (rented tents are double-occupancy) or you can bring your own. Sleeping bag and sleeping pad rentals are also available. Food and communal gear will be carried up by the group, so be sure to leave space in your pack!
